Mr Sonko, who allegedly sent a threatening message in a video that was widely shared on social media, hit back at embattled Embakasi East Lawmaker Babu Owino, who is now in custody for the third day running.

Kenyans took to social media to call on the Acting Interior CS Dr Fred Matiangi and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnett to order an immediate arrest of the governor.

The social media users are now pushing the Director of Public Prosecutions Mr Keriako Tobiko, who ordered the arrest of Babu Owino, to file a case against Mr Sonko. Mr Sonko allegedly made outrageous comments about the apprehended lawmaker, in effect that he “is a gay”.

This is not the first time Mr Sonko has used the word ‘shoga’ a Swahili word for ‘friend’ but could as well mean a ‘gay’ person.

Dikembe, a Nasa pundit and blogger has argued that the Babu Owino – Mike Sonko scenarios relate and so Sonko should be prosecuted.

“There's disproportionate prosecution of opposition politicians because those are the ones police arrest. Compare Babu-Sonko scenario,” Dikembe tweeted on Thursday.

He added: “To Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission of Kenya and the office of the Director of Public Prosecution where does the Governor Sonko "shoga" remarks fit in your justice system?”
