The NGO Board had earlier written to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations urging it to immediately shut down the AFriCOG offices and arrest its directors.

Its board members include the Chairperson former Anti-Corruption Czar John Githongo, Vice Chairperson Maina Kiai and Gladwell Otieno.

The Board’s Executive Director Fazul Mahamed has also advised the Central Bank of Kenya to freeze all its bank accounts for operating illegally.

However, moments after the raid, Acting Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi ordered for the suspension of the de-registration.

Matiangi ordered the Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho to form a committee to review the compliance status of the NGOs for the next 90 days.
