Watch Chef Eric Ripert and Jimmy Fallon Make a Gourmet Meal Out of Dorm Room Leftovers and Snacks

Finding ways to eat in a dorm room is a different level of challenge for any college student. Some might be masters of the microwave. Others might adhere pretty strictly to the dining hall menu. Personally, I was a big time PB+ J guy, only occasionally dabbling with milk and cereal to mix things up. Jimmy Fallon, at least briefly, changed the equation for a few college students, as he brought world-renowned chef Eric Ripert into a dorm to help re-purpose some leftovers and snacks into a three-course meal.

For a Tonight Show segment, Fallon took Riperta three-Michelin-starred chefto dorms in St. John's University in Queens. Ripert took ingredients that were just sitting around in a dorm"stoners," he noted, seeing a box of Cap'n Crunchand turned them into near-gourmet snacks.

First came a 'Dormet Cheeto Omelet,' which consisted of 4 eggs, a bag of cheetos, salt, pepper, and a butter packet. Ripert said that the cheesy snack would add texture to the omelet.

Next, the main course would be 'Leftover Burger Bolognese,' which is made up of a pair of chopped up leftover hamburgers from the refrigerator, mixed with tomato soup and served over two cups of instant ramen (chicken flavoring powder included!), all served on a dish. This might sound somewhat pedestrian (and I won't lie, it does not look all that appetizing), but the review from a student was glowing: "It's amazing!"

The last coursethe dessertis both the most salivating and the easiest to make yourself. It's a 'Mom's Ice Cream Sandwich,' as Ripert calls it, and the only ingredients needed are Vanilla Ice Cream, two cookies, and a bag of M&Ms. The students have a big ziploc bag of chocolate chip cookies, and Ripert takes it from there.

He melts some of the M&Ms down to liquid form, and drizzes it over the pair of cookies, which have since had some vanilla ice cream placed between them. He then sprinkles some still-solid M&Ms on top of the chocolate drizzle. As the temperatures adjust, it would seem possible that the melted chocolate could even harden up, which would make for an absolutely delicious variable.

All of these options that Ripert helps prepare sound great, but it also proves one ever-lasting point when painted into a corner: a little creativity can go a long way. What can your M&M ice cream sandwich be?
