Details of JKIA lounge allegedly used by DP Ruto alone
Chief Justice David Maraga on Monday lamented over the embarrassment he has suffered at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Addressing the media from the Supreme Court buildings, CJ Maraga revealed that he has been turned away from the VIP lounge at JKIA Terminal 1A numerous times on claims that it is only reserved for Deputy President William Ruto.
"I am told that the VIP lounge at JKIA ground floor is permanently locked. I am told it is reserved for the DP and I doubt if he is even aware of that.
"I go to JKIA and I use the normal KQ lounge. By the way, I enjoy the company of the passengers I find there, we laugh and talk very well. I'm not bothered about that, my problem is this, there are times I receive very important visitors. I have received fellow Chief Justices coming to this country, where would you like me to take them?
"Last year I was travelling with a fellow Chief Justice who had come to the country at my request and I was forced to take him to the KQ lounge and because it was crowded, someone had to be vacated from a seat for the visiting dignitary to find a place to sit. When I go to other countries I'm treated very well and I wonde what happens in my own country," the CJ narrated.
Simba Lounge and Pride Lounge at JKIA
A quick search of the lounge CJ Maraga may have been referring to the Simba Lounge which has a special area designated as the VVIP Lounge.
"Kenya Airways Simba Lounge is reserved for passengers with specific credentials such as elite status, premium tickets, or other access methods that are required for entry
"This [VVIP Lounge] will be an extra service offered to VVIP guests who wish to gain extra privacy in the lounge. On top of the USD40 for access of Simba Lounge, a charge of USD50 per hour will be charged for the room. The room can accommodate up to a maximum of 5 persons," a Kenya Airways notices reads in part.
The general lounge area the CJ referred to is christened, Pride Lounge.
