According to The Standard, the NASA principals came close to sealing a deal that would have seen them ditch Raila Odinga and throw their weight behind the rival Jubilee camp led by Kenyatta.

However, in a surprise turn of events, the opposition chief Raila Odinga beat them to the deal, agreeing to put aside their differences and work together to unite the nation.

Last Saturday at a burial in Siaya, Odinga warned his supporters of an impending betrayal, adding that the betrayers were amongst them.

It is not clear whether he was aware and was in fact referring to the behind the scenes talks between his co-principals and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
