Raila Forced to Intervene After Top ODM Leaders Fight

Opposition leader Raila Odinga will be jetting back into the country to intervene after top ODM leaders battle.

ODM party leader Raila Odinga will on Thursday chair a meeting to calm tension between party chairman John Mbadi and Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.

The Central Management Committee meeting was expected to address the supremacy battle between the two top ODM officials.

Mbadi and Sifuna took conflicting positions over ODM Nairobi County Assembly leadership wrangles.

Sifuna and ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen took different positions over Mbadi's decision to replace Nairobi Assembly’s minority leader Elias Okumu and Minority Whip Peter Imwatok.

Mbadi, who is the House Minority Leader had directed Highrise MCA Kennedy Oyugi and Savannah’s Nicholas Okumu to replace Okumu and Imwatok in the Nairobi Assembly.

Mbadi sent a letter first on Monday communicating the party’s position on the proposed changes on the minority side.

However, on Tuesday, Sifuna dispatched another letter to the assembly rubbishing Mbadi’s letter and directed the current leadership to stay put.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Joho, Elections Director Junet Mohammed and Senate Minority Leader James Orengo are among the top ODM leaders expected to attend the meeting.
