Fans noticed the watch immediately as Beckham Jr. and the Browns took to the field against the Tennessee Titans at the FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio, with many admiring the flex, and one pointing out that the wide receiver was wearing more than a quarter of a million dollars' worth of gear to play one of the most aggressive contact sports on the planet.

It's certainly one way to raise the stakes and heighten the tension for spectators; every time Beckham Jr. braved a tackle, fans held their breath for the six figure gadget on his wrist. Richard Mille watches have been worn by athletes during games before ( Rafael Nadal is a brand ambassador), but to many of us mere mortals, it would hardly seem worth the risk.

Unfortunately for the Browns, the pricey timepiece didn't turn out to be much of a good luck charm: they lost to the Titans in a spectacular 43-13 defeat. Athletes can be a superstitious bunch , so maybe after this, OBJ won't be wearing his super-expensive watch during any more games... But at least we know he won't be late to their next practice.
