Governor Obado to spend the night at Industrial Remand Prison in Nairobi

Melida Auma Sharon Otieno’s mother broke down into tears at the Milimani High Court on Monday when Migori Governor Okoth Obado was charged with her daughter’s murder.

Ms Auma who appeared in low spirits, got overwhelmed by emotions at the time when Obado pleaded not guilty to the murder of her daughter.

Obado entered a not guilty plea before the High Court, but his lawyers failed to get a bail hearing on Monday, as the prosecution sought for more time to respond.

DPP opposition

The DPP opposed the application for bail as applied by the Governor's legal team, but the matter will be decided when the High Court hears the matter on Tuesday afternoon.

Obado's lawyers also applied to have the Governor held at Gigiri Police Station, but the Prosecution opposed the move saying it would amount to extending preferential treatment to the accused person.

Obado's stay in police custody is expected to worsen after the High Court ruled that he be taken to the Industrial Area Remand Prison as he awaits his bail hearing on Tuesday afternoon.
