Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close watch on VfB Stuttgart's Angelo Stiller as the January transfer window approaches, with the German midfielder emerging as a key target for the Premier League club.

Stuttgart is expected to set a high asking price for their prized asset, demanding a fee in excess of €50 million (£43 million). Stiller's reputation has soared recently, with Sports Illustrated anointing him as Germany's "next big star" and ranking him 12th on their list of the world's top 25 defensive midfielders.

A product of Bayern Munich's esteemed academy, the 24-year-old joined Stuttgart from Bundesliga rivals TSG Hoffenheim in 2023. His impressive performances earned him a spot in The Athletic's 2024 Bundesliga Team of the Season and he was instrumental in Stuttgart's DFB-Pokal triumph in 2025.

According to football transfer specialist Florian Plettenberg, Stiller is receptive to the idea of a move to Old Trafford. "Manchester United are still monitoring Angelo Stiller, who is very open to a move next summer," Plettenberg stated on X. However, a transfer in the summer is considered more probable than a mid-season switch in January.

While United have also been linked with other defensive midfielders, including Brighton's Carlos Baleba and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, Stiller could represent a more financially viable option. Baleba is reportedly valued at around £100 million, while Wharton's price tag is also expected to be significantly higher than Stiller's £43 million valuation.
