According to Sonko, he was compelled to reward the inmates with materials in various prisons after learning that most of the prisoners were not well equipped in preparations for this year’s final exams.

"I was touched by the inmate’s plight since they had no one to wish them success & also buy for them exam materials,” reads the tweet.

Sonko who described the inmates as highly motivated, said they promised to post impressive results in the papers.

"The highly motivated inmates have now promised to perform well in the national exams,"

Final exams begins

Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations will begin on October 30 with rehearsals set to begin on October 29.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, will start on November 2 and run until November 28.

1.06 million pupils will sit for 2018 KCPE exams and another 663,820 students for the KCSE including inmates in various prisons across the country.
