The occurrence took place despite the efforts of the police to step up security in the city's suburbs where mobs reportedly attacked a group of Africans with sticks and metal chairs.

As earlier reported, five suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with the attacks with at least four others still at large.

Security checkpoints have since been put in place and patrols increased as part of the manhunt.
