Do you have to tell your partners?

You must because you are legally obliged to disclose your status to your sexual partners.

Most Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) are curable and others like HIV, while you have to live with them for the rest of your life, are manageable.

In other cases, your partner's previous statuses can be a determining factor in how you move forward in your current relationship. If you're a man and your ex had Human papilloma virus (HPV), she may have received it from you as men are the carriers of HPV which causes cervical cancer.

How do you disclose your status to your partner?

An STD status isn't something you add to your instagram bio. It isn't something that's broadcasted.

In a steady relationship, couples often go for tests together and then go for counselling together if they have any information that needs to be shared.

If you are aware that you had a previously existing STD, you need to tell your partner as soon as you can.

Go to a neutral location where you can share such an intimate detail.

Be calm, ensure that you're both comfortable and be matter of fact.

Allow your partner to share his/her concerns.

Share how you take care of yourself, that you are following the required treatments and are open to any questions or attending counselling with him/her.
