If anyone had any doubts before the start of EuroBasket, they have now been dispelled; the German national team is one of the most serious contenders for the European throne.
This isn't just because they dismantled Montenegro by 25 points in the opening round of the continental championship, but primarily because of the way they achieved that victory.
The Montenegrins held their own throughout the first half, even outscoring the Germans in the second quarter. However, the Panzers shifted into high gear in the third period, completely outplaying Boško Radović's squad. Suddenly, it felt as though everything Montenegro had accomplished in the first half belonged to a different, black-and-white film.
A much deeper and more versatile roster, plus vastly superior individual quality—these were the two factors that helped Germany break the game open. Consider this statistic: only six Montenegrin players got on the scoresheet, while for Germany, that number was 11.
