Mohammed Abduba Dida has until 4pm to resubmit his nomination papers after the IEBC rejected them.

Speaking to the candidate at the KICC where the candidates are presenting their nomination papers, IEBC chair Mr Wafula Chebukati has returned the papers to Mr Dida, citing a lack of a signature and rubber stamp from the commissioner of oaths.

“All of them are certified with Kenyatta University. They photocopied the originals and it is not a big deal. This is already done, I already have with me the commissioner of oath,” Dida told the press.

The new requirement that has caused panic in Dida’s team, however, had been the verification of academic details for the running mate, a requirement that was not there in 2013.

“I think currently things have changed. Last time we didn’t have to verify our running mate as such, but we have just to comply, we already have all the required documents. So it’s not such a big deal,” Dida added.

Earlier, Mr Dida protested a move by the poll’s team demand that the independent candidate present verifiable 48,000 signatures from across the country. Meanwhile, the court overturned the move by IEBC terming it unconstitutional.

In the meantime, Raila Odinga is set to present his nomination papers to the commission on sunda afternoon. President Uhuru Kenyatta, on the other hand, is set to present his papers to the commission on Monday.
