A warrant of arrest has been issued to ODM Nairobi County Chairman George Aladwa.

The warrant was issued to the former Nairobi Mayor for failing to appear before court over an incitement to violence case currently before court.

In January, Aladwa had asked the court to discard the charge sheet which was used in his incitement to violence case.

Aladwa argued the charge sheet used in the matter was defective because it was issued under the old constitution since it was the police who instituted criminal proceedings against him instead of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The ODM leader is charged with incitement to violence arising from remarks he allegedly made at a CORD rally in Kibera on October 8, last year.

Aladwa was charged after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission authenticated a video in which Aladwa is seen calling Kibera residents to violence should the 2017 general elections be, ā€œstolen,ā€ from Nasa leader Raila Odinga.

Aladwa however denied inciting the residents of the Kibera to violence.

He was released on a bond of Sh3 million with the alternative of paying a Sh500,000 cash bail.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions had sought to have him denied bond citing an increase in incidents of political leaders making inflammatory statements.
