Blow to Raila as senator defects from ODM

Barely a few hours the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) handed over 400 candidates direct nomination tickets, one of its senators has ditched the party.

Nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro has defected from the ODM citing frustrations from the party with less than four months to the general elections.

She however has not announced her next of party of choice.

Last month Ongoro was barred from contesting for Ruaraka parliamentary seat in an apparent disciplinary action after her supporters fought with those of area MP TJ Kajwang in Nairobi.

Two people were killed in the skirmishes in Ruaraka after the rival supporters clashed in Utalii ward.

Ongoro won the Kasarani parliamentary seat in 2007 on an ODM ticket.

She also served as an assistant minister in the coalition government and was ODM party’s deputy secretary general.
