Borussia Dortmund are reportedly making a significant move to secure the future of left-footed center-back Nico Schlotterbeck, as interest from FC Barcelona intensifies.

The Catalan club has been actively searching for defensive reinforcements since the departure of their only left-footed central defender, Iñigo Martínez, last summer. This has left a noticeable gap in their backline, prompting links to several potential targets.

Among the names connected with a move to Spain is Dortmund's Schlotterbeck. Speculation about his future has grown, with his current contract situation attracting attention from Barcelona, who are said to be keen on acquiring his services.

In response, Dortmund have reportedly tabled a new contract offer to fend off the Catalans. According to SPORT, the proposal aims to extend Schlotterbeck's deal from its current 2027 expiration to 2030.

The new terms would see a substantial pay rise for the German international, who is valued at around €40 million. His salary would reportedly increase from approximately €2.5 million to €8 million per year, a figure that includes both fixed pay and performance-related bonuses.

However, securing his signature may prove difficult. Schlotterbeck recently cast doubt on an imminent extension, publicly stating his intentions.

"Of course, there is mutual respect, but to be honest, I don’t think I’ll be renewing my contract anytime soon," the defender said just a few days ago.

Adding another layer to the situation, Bayern Munich have also reportedly shown interest in the center-back. With a tug-of-war developing between two of Germany's biggest clubs and the Spanish giants, Schlotterbeck's destination beyond next summer remains uncertain.
