Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal have reached an agreement with Liverpool to sign striker Darwin Núñez, according to sources.
Núñez, who arrived at Anfield from Benfica in the summer of 2022 for an initial fee of £64 million ($85.5m), has been the subject of transfer speculation for some time. Despite Liverpool's recent Premier League title win, the forward's role in the team diminished last season.
Sources indicate that Núñez has been keen on a move, having previously urged the club to consider serious interest from Saudi Arabia during the January transfer window. He reportedly reiterated his desire to leave this summer, leading to the current breakthrough.
Al Hilal has now reportedly agreed to a €53 million ($62m) deal to bring the Uruguayan international to the Middle East. This follows earlier interest from Serie A champions Napoli, whose bid was rejected by Liverpool.
The Anfield club deemed Napoli's offer insufficient, particularly as the proposed payment structure would have deferred the funds until 2026 and spread them over a five-year period.
Should Núñez's transfer be completed, Liverpool is expected to re-enter the market for a new forward. However, the club will reportedly only pursue a player who is considered a clear upgrade to their current starting lineup.
