The Red Cross has reported that a light aircraft went down in Malindi, Kilifi County.
One person was injured as a result and rushed to hospital.
Before Crashing
The plane, a Cessna 152 failed to achieve the required altitude during take-off causing it to collide with the post.
Eyewitnesses told journalists that the accident occurred at around 10:30 AM.
Malindi International Airport manager, Mohamed Karama stated that a pilot trainee who was operating the plane was rescued from the scene and was receiving treatment at the Hospital.
“The aircraft which belongs to Kenya School of Flying was heading to Ukunda in Kwale County after taking off at 10.30 AM. The investigation team has already begun probing the cause of the accident," Karama stated.
"The pilot was trying to divert the aircraft towards a swamp after it failed to climb high before hitting an electric post and fell on a house," he added.
Reports indicated that the Kenya Red Cross together with the County Government of Kilifi and Airport Fire Brigade team conducted the rescue operation to ensure the operation went smoothly.
Helping Hands
A resident who was among the first people at the scene narrated how they helped the trainee escape from the wreckage.
"I cut off the safety belt using a knife and pulled him out... 15 minutes later, an ambulance arrived and the victim was rushed to the hospital," he remarked.
