Three family members have been confirmed dead following a fire at their house in Nairobi's Kariobangi South estate.

One of the deceased is said to have been a one-year-old toddler.

According to Nairobi Police Commander Philip Ndolo, two other members of the household were rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in critical condition.

The police boss stated that investigations had kicked off to establish the cause of the fire.

Korogocho fire

Barely a week ago, in an unrelated incident, a fire engulfed the populous Korogocho slum leaving more than 20 families homeless.

The Kenya Red Cross reported three casualties in the incident that is said to have occurred at 9 p.m. in the evening.

The displaced families spent the night at a nearby St Claire Primary School. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

Politicians have in the past alleged that slum fires are started by private developers who wish to grab land for projects.
