Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi has announced that the government has officially requested the Independents Boundaries and Electoral Commission (IEBC) to hold the repeat Presidential election at least a week before October 17 when the national examinations are expected to commence.
Matiang’i made the announcement on Monday where he also assured the country that the security sector was ready for both the election and the national examinations.
"The IEBC has promised that they will consider our request. They have not confirmed but we are hoping that they will consider us so that their decision does not interfere with so many things," the CS briefed the press, adding that he had held extensive talks with IEBC Chairman Mr Wafula Chebukati.
The electoral management body is currently holed in a meeting where they are planning on how they will conduct the repeat polls.
The IEBC was last Friday directed by the Supreme Court to hold a repeat election after the results of the Presidential election held on August 8 were nullified.
