Speaking in a periodic update to the media at the National Tallying Centre based at the Bomas of Kenya, Mr Chebukati told said that already the Commission is mulling on making the final decision, amid mounting pressure from the ruling Jubilee lawmakers and governors to have IEBC declare Mr Odinga the president elect.

“On whether based on the figures that we already have and whether we can announce the winner, let us wait until 8.30pm so that we see what the Commission can do,” Mr Chebukati told an almost empty Bomas of Kenya hall.

Mr Chebukati has clarified that already all returning officers with crucial forms 34A and 34B have been received and verified. The fate of seven remaining constituencies, however, remains unknown as the Chairman insisted that he would name them at 8 tonight.

I can confirm that the results from the 259 constituencies and are all verified. The remaining seven, we shall talk to you about it,” he said.

Deviating from the earlier sentiments that the commission had little hope in conducting a credible poll, Mr Chebukati told reporters that the Commission can now assure the country of a credible process.

“This process, from where I sit, is above par. I can confidently say that the process is credible. So the commission is sure of what we have because it is all done in the open, everything is here,” he told reporters.

On repeat polls in four counties in Nyanza region which was again postponed, Mr Chebukati has said that the commission will give directions in due course.

Earlier, Mr Chebukati faced massive resistance from the residents who boycotted elections, thanks to Nasa presidential candidate’s ‘No election’ campaign.
