Traffic was at a standstill after a rowdy youth in Karatina stopped a convoy to search for opposition party leader Raila Odinga.
In a bid to stop Odinga from attending the late Nyeri governor Dr Wahome Gaukuru’s burial, the youth disrupted traffic on the busy Karatina-Nairobi Highway for almost two hours.
While chanting anti-Raila slogans, the youth blocked the highway and flagged down all vehicles heading to Nyeri after word hit the streets that the NASA leader would attend the burial.
The angry mob forced motorists to open their vehicles while searching for the opposition leader and asked those on board to identify themselves before allowing them to continue with their journey.
Under a solemn vow not to give Raila Odinga passage to the well-attended burial, the youth confronted a traffic police officer who tried to salvage the situation.
Dr Gakuru died in a grisly accident on 7 November 2017 after his car rammed into a highway barrier on his way to Nairobi.
