Ministry of education releases 2025 academic calendar & examination dates

The Ministry of Education has officially released the academic calendar for 2025, detailing term dates, holidays, and examination schedules for schools across the country.

The new calendar is designed to ensure smooth transitions and adequate preparation for learners in primary and secondary schools.

The first term of the academic year will commence on 6 January 2025 and conclude on 4 April 2025, spanning 13 weeks.

Learners will enjoy a midterm break from 26 February to 2 March, followed by a three-week holiday from 7 April to 25 April.

Term two, the longest academic term of the year, begins on 28 April and runs until 1 August, lasting 14 weeks. It will feature a midterm break from 25 June to 29 June.

After the term ends, students will proceed on a three-week holiday from 4 August to 22 August.

The final term, Term three, will open on 25 August and close on 24 October. This term, dedicated to national examinations, will last nine weeks with no midterm break.

According to the Ministry, the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will be held from 27 October to 30 October 2025.

Similarly, the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) will occur between 27 October and 31 October.

For secondary school learners, the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) and the Kenya Primary Level Education Assessment (KPLEA) are scheduled to take place from 27 October to 6 November.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will run from 3 November to 21 November, spanning three weeks.

The year will culminate with the December holiday, beginning on October 27, 2025 and extending to 2 January 2026, providing students and teachers with a 10-week break.
